39 campers rescued from flooded pitches at two camp sites

CAMPERS staying at two west Wales camp sites had to be assisted by fire fighters after their pitches became inundated with flood water, caused by a combination of high tides and persistent rainfall.

Thirty nine people were helped by the rescue teams and one person was treated for minor injuries.

The fire and rescue service send out a press release saying: “09:13am this morning, (Tuesday 25th August 2020), crews from Tenby and Narberth attended a flooding incident at a caravan park in Wiseman’s Bridge, Narberth.
“Approximately 30 occupants were evacuated from the site, with assistance from the Fire Service.
“Twelve caravans were removed from the site, with assistance from the site owner.
“Firefighters administered medical treatment to a male casualty before transferring him to the care of the Ambulance Service.
“The Fire Service left the incident at 11:48am.”
Regards the incident at St Clears Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 06:52am crews from Whitland, Carmarthen and Swansea Central attended a water rescues at a camp site near St Clears.
“Nine people and two dogs were rescued, from the flooded camp site, by Fire Service personnel using a swift rescue sledge, lines and wading gear.
“The Fire Service left the incident at 09:17am.”
Further to the two campsite rescues, the council have given an update with the following information this morning:

• Carew to Tenby road at Gumfreston: still closed closed due to flooding and may remain so for some time
• Kilgetty to Pentlepoir road: tree removed and road open.
• Carew Bridge: tide has receded and road reopened
• A4115 – Crosshands to Templeton road: passable with care but still being affected by run-off from fields.
