4×4 found abandoned on Carmarthenshire beach

A 4×4 was abandoned after apparently getting stuck in the mud and then overturning during wild weather on a Carmarhtenshire beach.

The vehicle was found lying on its side on Llansteffan Beach in Carmarthenshire on Thursday night (August 9).

It was reported to the local coastguard and they, along with police officers from Dyfed-Powys Police, made their way to the beach.

The silver Mitsubishi Pajero appeared to have become stuck in the mud in a boggy area away from the sand.

It seemed to have then been abandoned before the tide came in.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We received a call on Thursday evening from HM Coastguard alerting us to an abandoned vehicle in Llansteffan.

“Officers arrived at the scene at 7.14pm and checked the vehicle for any occupants before arranging recovery with the coastguard team.”

The owners of the vehicle have been located and were unhurt.

Recovery is being arranged but the vehicle remains stuck in the mud on Friday morning, with the rough weather likely to delay its recovery. HM Coastguard has confirmed that there are no concerns with regards to fuel pollution.

Thursday night’s incident is the latest on a Carmarthenshire beach which has seen vehicles getting stuck on the sand.

In July, a Land Rover Discovery was almost covered in water after getting stuck in North Dock in Llanelli.

Just over a week later, a white Jeep had to be recovered from the sand in Burry Port after being caught out by the tide.
