A huge RAF aircraft has been spotted flying over Pembrokeshire

THE A400M Altas aircraft was seen over the Haverfordwest area yesterday (Thursday May 7).

There were also reports of similar sightings last week.

The huge plane had made the journey from the RAF Brize Norton, in Oxfordshire, and was out as part of a training exercise.

RAF Brize Norton took to Facebook to say: “Our A400M Atlas aircraft will be operating whilst engaged in essential training.

“These are necessary, routine, flights and not connected with RAF support to the UK’s fight against coronavirus.”

The RAF A400M Altas Transport Aircraft entered operational service with the Royal Air Force in 2014 to provide a tactical airlift and has over-sized lift capacities, which, the RAF says, complements the Hercules and C-17 fleets.

It has the capacity to carry a 37-tonne payload to civilian and military airfields.

The aircraft will accommodate as many of 116 fully equipped troops, as well as vehicles and helicopters.

The Atlas is operated by two pilots and a weapons system operator.
