‘Amazing Dad’ walks 45 miles in memory of daughter

A LOCAL Fishguard man, Mervyn Hawkins, walked an astounding 45 miles in memory of his daughter, Ellie Butler, who sadly passed away last year, very suddenly.

Mervyn walked the very tiring 45-mile route last Sunday on the anniversary of Ellie’s death, which took him 13.5 hours. He started from Fishguard making his way to St. David’s, Haverfordwest and all the way back to Fishguard, with his daughters joining him for the last few miles.
Ellie’s sister, Georgia Hawkins, helped her dad organise the walk, in memory of her sister and set up the fundraiser to sponsor Mervyn’s walk. Georgia expressed that her and family were all very proud of him.
Mervyn’s sponsored walked gained lots of popularity through social media, raising over £4,589 for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). He was greeted by lots of locals showing their support by cheering him on from the roadside as he walked by and tooting car horns as they drove passed him.

Mervyn spoke to Pembrokeshire Herald on what it was like to walk the long distance; “I knew it would be a challenge but I knew if I put my mind to it I would be able to do it.”
