County braces for Storm Ellen

NORTH Pembrokeshire lifeguards have released a public safety announcement in regards to ‘Storm Ellen’  which is predicted to run through the UK  from the West Coast tonight.

The statement released explains that it is highly likely that Whitesands, Newgale and Nolton Haven will be red flagged from Thursday, August 20 until Saturday, August 22 evening time. It is predicted that the storm will bring storm force winds, large waves, and very strong currents within the water. The winds have been predicted to hit up to 75mph.

It is explained that the lifeguards due to be on duty will still remain located on the beaches as planned, but to offer advice on the situation regarding the safety of being on the beach. They have been asked to suggest a beach which may not be red flagged, or if it is the case, to avoid entering the water at all costs through this time period.

North Pembrokeshire beach lifeguards stated: “seas around the UK and Ireland are dangerously unpredictable and whilst it might look inviting and fun it simply will not be the case.”

Please stay safe in these times.
