Emergency services investigated vehicle submerged in water

EMERGENCY SERVICES were called to Cwm y Eglwys on Thursday night (Jan 24) following reports of a vehicle in the water.

The coastguard, fire service and police attended the incident.

Coastguard personnel entered the water to check that nobody was inside the vehicle, and with the owner of the van located safely on land, Pembrokeshire County Council were notified for recovery of the vehicle.

Nobody had been hurt.

A Fishguard Coastguard spokesperson said: “Whilst the team were cleaning down post training we were tasked to a vehicle in the water at Cwm y Eglwys with possible people inside.

“The team quickly arrived on scene with Heddlu Dyfed Powys Police. With dry suits on and all safety measures in place, two coastguards entered the sea to do a search of the vehicle.

“After the search we were able to confirm nobody was trapped.

“MAWW Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and were able to provide more lighting, and Fishguard & Goodwick RNLI Lifeboat Station carried out safety cover for the coastguards in the water while the inshore boat did a search of the bay.

“The owner of the vehicle was found safe and well on land, and with the council informed for the recovery and clean up all services were stood down.”
