A MEMBER of Pembrokeshire County Council’s Emergency Planning team has said they ‘dropped the ball’ in their response to the flooding at Lower Priory in Milford Haven in November 2018.

Heavy rainfall saw water levels rise to unprecedented levels in the area and many homes were damaged as a result.

Residents have been angered by what went on and an Extraordinary meeting of the Partnerships Overview and Scrutiny Committee was held on Thursday, February 14, to discuss a number of issues surrounding the flooding.

Natalie Bannister, resident, gave a history of Lower Priory and Havens Head and the flooding that had taken place in November 2018.

She stated: “Residents now live in fear because of the flooding that should never have happened.

“Milford Haven Port Authority insisted that rapid sluicing was already occurring but the water continued to rise.

“The stench was horrendous in our homes. There were people going down in kayaks trying to get their belongings back. The pumping station at Lower Priory was partially submerged and the water went into people’s homes. The water reached heights of 8ft in some places. Because of the contaminated water leaves dropped off the trees.”

Ms Bannister also asked a representative of the Port of Milford Haven, Mr Bowns, when the trash screens were checked and cleared.

Mr Bowns stated that the screens were inspected on a monthly basis and that they were cleared when they are required to be cleared.

Natalie thanked the Fire and Rescue Service for their efforts and members of the council who had come to see the residents.
