Haverfordwest: Bulgarian workers’ bus gets stuck on Tower Hill

A COACH with trailer carrying migrant workers from Bulgaria to Pembrokeshire got stuck on Sunday (Nov 1) in Haverfordwest after attempting to drive along Perrot Avenue and up Tower Hill.

It is understood that the workers are here for employment at Capestone Farm and are staying at the Broad Haven YMCA and flats owned by farm in Haverfordwest.

Bulgaria has a low incidence of Covid-19 infections, almost 100 times lower than the UK, but many took to social media to complain that the workers inside the bus were not wearing masks or socially distanced. Capestone has been contacted for a comment.

A spokesman for Capestone Organic Poultry Ltd told said: “Thank you for the chance to comment on this story, we are grateful to have the opportunity to provide information on our temporary workers and reassure members of our local community.

“Capestone Organic Poultry Ltd employs 240 permanent local employees. In order to support our Christmas production, 103 temporary workers arrived on 1st November and began a 2 week quarantine period ahead of starting work.

“80% of those who arrived are returning for their 3rd, 4th and even 5th year working with Capestone, they are valued members of our Christmas production team.

“Capestone is a major local employer, we take our responsibilities to our team members and local community extremely seriously.

“We have worked with both our local council and liaised with the Welsh Government to coordinate the COVID19 quarantine period for our temporary workers.”
