Long ban for Milford Haven drink driver

A MILFORD HAVEN man described as having ‘a severe alcohol problem’ in Court received a 44-month driving ban at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court on New Year’s Eve.

David John Guy, aged 43 and of Blackbridge Drive, pleaded guilty to a single offence of driving with excess alcohol.

Police stopped Guy in Johnston on December 16 and administered a roadside breath test. Having failed the breath test, Guy provided a reading of 84microgrammes of alcohol in 100mls of breath. The limit is 35.

Guy had a previous conviction for drinking and driving.

Addressing the Court on the Defendant’s behalf, Mike Kelleher told the Court his client split recently from his partner and the end of that relationship prompted his client’s relapse into alcohol abuse.

While his client was unemployed at the moment, Mr Kelleher told the bench Guy intended to start up a new business. That business was now unlikely to start up.

In the run-up to Christmas, Guy helped out at local charity PATCH, Mr Kelleher said.

Magistrates adjourned to allow the preparation of a probation report before recalling the case later the same day.

On return, Magistrates considered the report’s content.

The Bench sentenced Guy to a twelve-month community order involving twenty rehabilitation days and 150 hours’ unpaid work. The Bench also imposed a driving ban of 44 months’ duration.

Magistrates approved that Guy could reduce the length of his ban by attendance on an appropriate course to be funded at his own expense.

The Court imposed financial penalties and costs totalling £207.
