Milford Haven: Christmas lights switch-on event cancelled due to Covid-19

THIS year’s visit by Father Christmas to Milford Haven for the annual switch-on of the Christmas lights has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The annual event usually attracts thousands for a parade through the town culminating by the lights switch on from the Town Hall balcony.

Kids rides, the town band, choir and fast food vans are also usually at the popular event – usually held on the first Saturday in December.

The Town Council posted online: “At the Milford Haven Town Council Full Council Meeting held on Monday 7th September it was with deep regret that, owing to the current Covid-19 regulations issued by the Welsh Government, this year’s Visit of Father Christmas be cancelled.

“The Mayor of Milford Haven, Councillor Terry Davies, said that it was most unfortunate that this event would not be going ahead this year, but he would like to assure everyone in the town that the Christmas Lights on the Town Hall and in the Memorial Gardens will be still in place as in previous years. Santa’s Post Box will also still be in its usual position to allow the children to send their letters to Santa.

“The Mayor is sure that everyone will understand that this was not an easy decision for Councillors to make but we have to adhere to the guidelines set by the Welsh Government to ensure our duty of care to everyone in the town. The Mayor is looking forward to a bigger and better event next year for us all.”

PLEASE NOTE: The Round Table will need to announce separately if the parade is still on, as the lights switch on is technically a separate event on the same day.
