New skate park opens in Neyland

A NEW skate park has been officially opened in Neyland.

The Town’s Mayor, other councillors and young people were in attendance for the opening on Wednesday (Mar 16) as the youngsters tried out the new facilities.

A new surface was laid next to the car park at Bruney Quay in January and equipment was then installed.

The Town Council held a meeting in November 2021 and said that play facilities in the town were ‘much needed’ and agreed to apply for funding for the equipment.

The scheme cost £50,000 in total with funding from Welsh Government, Pembrokeshire County Council and Neyland Town Council.

Mayor of Neyland, Cllr Simon Hancock said: “The opening of the Skatepark on Brunel Quay marks an important step forward in providing facilities for young people in Neyland.

“We are grateful for the support from Welsh Government’s  capital play fund and Pembrokeshire  County Council.

“Their grants were supplemented by  money from Neyland Town Council. In total the project cost nearly £50,000.

“The deputy mayor Councillor Lawlor and our own staff, Jane and Vanessa ensured the town council were able to take advantage of the funding opportunities.

“I am sure the new skatepark will be very popular and well used for years to come.”
