Over 1,000 Pembrokeshire people sign online Brexit petition

Brexit: Government must give small businesses help and support

A PETITION calling to revoke Article 50 has been signed by over 1,000 people in Pembrokeshire, and approximately 770,000 people nationwide.

Parliament’s petitions website crashed on Thursday (Mar 21) morning due to the high volume of traffic with regard to the petition titled ‘Revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU’. It very quickly passed the 10,000 signatures required for a government response, and likewise the 100,000 signatures for Parliament to consider the issue for a debate. The site crashed intermittently throughout Thursday, and was often described as ‘down for maintenance’.

The petition reads: “The government repeatedly claims exiting the EU is ‘the will of the people’. We need to put a stop to this claim by proving the strength of public support now, for remaining in the EU. A People’s Vote may not happen – so vote now.”

As of the time of writing, 643 people of the Preseli Pembrokeshire constituency have signed, as have 646 from Carmarthenshire West and South Pembrokeshire.
This comes after Theresa May wrote to EU Council President Donald Tusk requesting to delay Brexit until June 30. Mr Tusk has said that he believed the European Union would agree to a short extension, but only if the Prime Minister’s deal is agreed to by MPs next week.
