Pembrokeshire Council Leader’s coronavirus update for Friday, 20th March

We need to help: David Simpson, Council Leader

PEMBROKESHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL Leader, Councillor David Simpson, has provided a further coronavirus update:

“The Council provided has provided number of external press releases today (20th March) covering:

• supporting local businesses
• financial support for residents
• limiting mourners at funerals
• school plans for childcare.

“The more general updates I want to highlight are:

• a decision taken to continue to hold the Haverfordwest Farmers’ Market today because it assists with local food distribution and also helps local producers. The market was a tremendous success and warmly welcomed.

• the education team have planning arrangements in hand to deliver childcare support for key workers from Monday morning. Schools will be operating normal school hours next week, but we ask where possible that children are kept at home. We are limiting attendance at our schools to key worker groups. School attendance must be limited to those who need it most. We will review this position on a regular basis and communicate with you through the council website and media channels.

• I am fully aware that a number of questions and queries are being raised about second home owners and visitors coming to Pembrokeshire at this time. Pembrokeshire County Council would urge everyone to continue to follow the advice of the Government during the coronavirus outbreak. This issue has also been raised by my colleagues in neighbouring Council’s and we are working with our neighbours and other key partners to come up with a coordinated response on the matter.

• council officers will continue to plan and oversee our response to the current situation over the weekend. I do not intend to send a an update over the weekend and will pick up with further updates on Monday.”
