Preseli education consultation launched

A CONSULTATION has been launched on this week (Mar 3) by Pembrokeshire County Council on a proposal to amalgamate Ysgol y Frenni and Ysgol y Preseli in Crymych.

The consultation proposes discontinuing both schools and establishing a new 3-19 Welsh-medium school using both current school sites.

It follows a review of education in the Preseli area undertaken in 2019, which included preliminary engagement with Ysgol y Preseli and its feeder schools, as well as parents and the wider school community.

A report on the review was presented to full Council on October 10th, concluding with a recommendation to establish a new 3-19 entity instead of the separate primary and secondary provision provided by Ysgol y Frenni and Ysgol y Preseli.

Councillors agreed to authorise the Director of Children and Schools to undertake consultation on the proposal.

To give your views on the proposal, please take part in the consultation online at www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/haveyoursay

This document offers an opportunity for consultees to put forward any comments, observations or alternative proposals they wish to be considered, as well as explaining why other options considered are not the preferred option.

The closing time and date for responses is 5pm on Wednesday 15th April 2020.

Pembrokeshire County Council has a statutory duty to secure sufficient and suitable school places in its area and to determine whether it is making the best use of the resources and facilities to deliver the opportunities that children deserve.
