Rumours about a complete ban on alcohol sales in Wales dismissed

RUMOURS on social media that alcohol sales are going to be banned in Wales from December 17 have been dismissed by the Welsh Government.

Many people have been saying that ministers are considering banning the sale in supermarkets and off licences as part of new restrictions before Christmas.

But a spokesman for the Welsh Government said: “There is absolutely no truth in this.”

Dr Frank Atherton told the latest Welsh Government briefing that the Welsh Cabinet would be meeting this week to look at what he described as “other options” to try and get the virus under control.

But a complete ban on the sale of alcohol at Christmas is not realistically going to be one of the topics under discussion.
