Welsh Dragon Boat Championship supporting mental health

On the water: The event this year will fund mental health charities

THIS YEAR the Rotary Club of Narberth & Whitland has chosen to use the proceeds of the Welsh Dragon Boat Championship to support charities involved with mental health.

These charities include MIND, Adlerian Society of Wales, Working to Become Dementia Friendly and HAFAL.

2017 is the 4th year that the event is being staged in Pembrokeshire and already 18 teams have been identified and they are actively recruiting their supporters.

Over £40,000 has been raised during the past 3 years and this year the club president, Mary Adams, is hoping that the proceeds will benefit some individuals and organisations in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire who have mental health issues.

The organisers of the event say: “This year it will be much easier and cheaper to enter a team. The number of people in each team has been reduced from 17 to 15 and, the combined entry fee and individual fundraising target has been reduced from £65 per head to £50 per head.

“During the day on Sunday 28th May 2017, all children’s rides and entertainment will be absolutely free and there is no entry fee for them to get into the Country Park and Reservoir. There is also free overnight camping on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th.

“Full details can be obtained from Rotarian Steve Lewis 07932 798 910 or email [email protected]

Entertainment: All rides are sponsored by Care in Hand
