Woman arrested on suspicion of murder following child’s death in Swansea

A 41-YEAR-OLD woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the tragic death of a child in Swansea.

Officers were called to a property on Cwm Du Close, in the Gendros area of the city, at approximately 20:30pm on Thursday evening. (Aug 29) South Wales Police have confirmed that the woman, who lived with the child, is currently in custody in Bridgend. The force’s major crimes investigations team is leading the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Authorities have stated that they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.

Images from the scene show police vehicles outside a house in Gendros, with a child’s toy visible in the background, highlighting the heartbreaking nature of the event. A cordon has been put in place as forensic officers continue their investigations.

Chief Superintendent Chris Truscott, divisional commander for Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, addressed the incident, acknowledging the profound impact it has had on the local community.

“This is a distressing incident which will be a shock to the local community,” he said. “Detectives are working to establish the circumstances of the child’s death, and there will be an increased police presence in the area to offer reassurance to local residents.”

Chief Supt Truscott also urged the public to refrain from speculation on social media, noting that it could exacerbate the distress for those affected by this already difficult situation.

Gendros, located in the Cockett ward of west Swansea, is typically a quiet residential area, making Thursday’s events all the more shocking for local residents.

The investigation is ongoing, and South Wales Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
