Anglesey residents can now subscribe online: www.anglesey.gov.wales/green-garden-waste for the 2024/25 green waste collection service.
More than 15,500 homes across the Island signed up to the subscription service last year.
To guarantee the green waste collection pack and sticker arrives in time (before April 1st, 2024), residents are being encouraged to register online before 29th February, 2024.
The annual subscription fee for 2024/25 is £38. This represents a £3 price increase which will help cover the rising cost of providing the service.
The annual service entitles households to 26 collections of their 240-litre green bin for grass and other garden waste. Every local authority in North Wales charges a fee for this service.
Head of Highways, Property and Waste Management, Huw Percy, explained, “We are extremely grateful to residents for their continued recycling efforts. Green waste collection is not a statutory service, and it is not funded through Council tax.”
“The annual subscription fee has remained the same since its introduction in 2021. Unfortunately, due to continued rising costs of providing the service, an increase of £3 is necessary.”
He added, “Those who don’t want to pay the fee can still take their green waste to either of our household waste recycling centres in Penhesgyn or Gwalchmai free of charge or continue composting their own green waste.”
Collecting green garden waste will help Anglesey reach the Welsh Government target of recycling 70% of its waste by 2025.
Anglesey’s Highways, Waste and Property Portfolio Holder, Councillor Dafydd Rhys Thomas, added, “We look forward to continue to work with our residents to improve recycling rates, to help reduce our carbon footprint and look after our Island for the future generations to come.”
He added, “I encourage all Anglesey residents who want to use the green waste collection service in 2024/25 to register as soon as possible to ensure that they receive their registration pack and sticker in good time.”
