TOILET facilities along the coast of Anglesey have reopened following a £360,000 upgrade.
Visitors to several locations will be able to spend a penny in improved facilities following the cash boost.
The facilities at four of Anglesey’s busiest beaches – Benllech, Trearddur Bay, Porth Swtan and Porthdafarch – have been modernised and improved.
Now, those caught short on the island will benefit from the upgrade thanks to £248,000 awarded by the Welsh Government, and an additional £112,000 provided by Anglesey Council.
The Welsh Government funding was provided as part of a £2.9 million package announced by economy minister Vaughan Gething under the Brilliant Basics capital fund.
It helps to deliver small-scale infrastructure improvements in “strategically important” tourism locations across Wales.
Anglesey’s visitor economy and coastal areas manager Andy Godber said: “The quality and availability of local amenities play an important part in the visitor experience.
“This funding has helped us to improve toilet facilities across various locations on Anglesey.
“This will also improve the overall experience visitors and residents have when they visit our beautiful beaches.
Improvements to the facilities include new shower facilities, washrooms, lighting and bike racks.
Improved signage will also be installed. Anglesey’s highways, waste and property portfolio holder, Councillor Dafydd Rhys Thomas, added: “We very much welcome this investment, which has helped us to modernise some of our key public toilets across the Island.
“It’s important we continue to seek further funding opportunities to improve important infrastructure around the Island.”
Leisure, tourism and maritime portfolio holder, Councillor Neville Evans, added: “This funding, which has been provided by the Welsh Government and the county council, will go a long way to help us improve the visitor experience and provide facilities for our visitors and residents when visiting busy locations on the Island.”
