SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is calling on his constituents to sign up to make a difference in the community.
North Wales Police are currently accepting applications for Special Constables and Mr Rowlands, a keen supporter of the police, is urging those interested to apply.
He said: “I am a great believer in voluntary work and by becoming a Special Constable you can make a real difference in your community.
“It is an exciting and very rewarding job and a wonderful way of spending your free time helping the police to help others.
“Apart from learning new skills and gaining confidence it is also a good way of finding out more about a career in the police force.”
If you enjoy a challenge, solving problems and would like to contribute to keeping your community safe, whilst developing a wider range of skills, then volunteering in policing could be for you.
You will be expected to volunteer around 200 hours a year, which is approximately 16 hours per month. You’ll need to attend the initial police training course, and once your training is complete, you’ll buddy up with more experienced officers to develop your skills and gain Independent Patrol Status. This means you’ll be competent in the basics of policing and have the same powers as regular police officers.
Joining the Volunteer (Specials) Constabulary opens up a whole new world of opportunities like no other. As a Volunteer Constable, you’ll discover loads about your local community and help make a positive impact. You’ll get involved with local policing initiatives, make new friends, work as a team and develop the skills you already possess.
Applications for the role of Special Constable will close on June 20. For more information and to apply go to https://www.northwales.police.uk/police-forces/north-wales-police/areas/careers/careers/special-constable/
