A POPULAR Llandudno bar which suddenly closed earlier this year could soon reopen its doors.
Fountains Bar & Cafe, on Upper Mostyn Street, closed its doors in January after it hosted a New Year’s Eve party.
Signage and fixtures were removed from the building, according to witnesses, and a repossession notice was attached to the front of the property.
Now Phillip Ashe, who has managed several bars and pubs in Conwy, has submitted an application for a premises licence for the bar.
If granted, the bar would specialise in cocktails, live music, and food.
The application seeks opening hours from Monday to Sunday between 9am and 2.30am.
Mr Ashe said the type of bar he was looking to open would depend on the licence granted, explaining the building first needed to be refurbished.
“Fountains shut at the beginning of the year,” he said.
“The building became available.
“I’m leasing the building, but the first thing I need to do is get an alcohol licence.
“So if I want to do anything, I need a licence.
“It’s a massive building with space outside. It’s on the corner.
“There are great opportunities there. Everybody knows Fountains in town.
“I need to get a licence on the premises, and what the licence is will dictate what we do going forward.
“Opening before September is a bit unrealistic, but I want to get it open after the summer.”
He added: “We are looking at cocktails, live music, and food.
“The building is a shell at the moment, so it needs refurbishing.
“It’s an exciting opportunity. Llandudno and the late-night economy are absolutely booming.
“It has never been so busy. There are massive opportunities. A lot of people still go out.
“You can’t park anywhere. Llandudno is a massive economy for North Wales, especially for the county of Conwy.”
