CONWY County Borough Council is delighted to announce that the Museum Service at Conwy Culture Centre has been awarded full accreditation under the Museum Accreditation Scheme.
The Museum Accreditation Scheme is managed as a UK Partnership between Arts Council England, the Welsh Government, Museums Galleries Scotland and Northern Ireland Museums Council. It is run for museums and galleries of all sizes and types across the UK.
As well as being a home to the Museum collections, Conwy Culture Centre is home to the area Library, the county’s Archive Service, exhibition space and café. It serves as a hub for the local community, and a gateway to the story of Conwy county with its vibrant heritage displays of unique objects and pictures.
In 2015, Conwy County Borough Council was awarded £71,500 and a further £900,000 in 2017 by the National Lottery Heritage Fund for the Conwy Culture Centre project.
Achieving full accreditation shows that the Museum Service at Conwy Culture Centre is properly managed and governed to the nationally agreed industry standard, and takes proper care of its collections, sharing them with visitors and keeping them safe for future generations.
Rachel Evans, Museums Service and Accreditation Support Officer said: ‘This is a really important day for our team. Everyone has worked hard to get to this stage, and becoming an Accredited museum will offer so many new opportunities for developing our collections for the benefit of visitors and residents”
Cllr Aaron Wynne, Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure said: “I’m delighted that Conwy Culture Centre has received full accreditation, and I’m extremely proud of the team for all their hard work to prepare the application, really well done”.
