A FORMER Llandudno Junction scrapyard could be transformed into a council waste transfer station.
Conwy County Council has applied to its own planning department, seeking permission for the waste transfer station at Plot 2, Ffordd Maelgwyn, Llandudno Junction.
If granted permission, the station will be used as a collection point in which collection vehicles and containers are emptied and the waste checked.
The site is now vacant but was formerly used as a car-breaking yard.
The planning application states, “The proposal is for the construction of a local authority waste transfer station to undertake sorting and bailing of separately collected recyclable waste streams. The building will only be used for the bulking of material and, other than a dirty loading shovel and a fork, no machinery will be located within it.”
The application includes plans for an outbuilding, creation of new access, internal access roads, service yard, storage areas, parking areas, and associated drainage and landscaping.
According to the application, the site would have 12 members of full-time staff and be open Monday to Saturday 6 am – 7 pm and Sundays and bank holidays 8 am – 5 pm.
The site would be capable of processing around 74,999 tonnes at a time.
The planning application will be debated at a future Conwy County Council planning committee meeting.
