A DENBIGHSHIRE football club has asked for permission to increase the size of its pitch to allow international teams to train at its ground.
An application has been made to Denbighshire Council’s planning department, seeking permission to increase the size of Ruthin Football Club’s pitch.
The club, who play in the JD Cymru North league, intend to extend the pitch at the Memorial Playing Fields to comply with professional regulations.
In a planning statement, applicant Richard Goldston, of Rig Joinery, said: “The Football Association of Wales have asked if it is possible to make the football pitch international size.
“This is so Ruthin Town FC can be used as a venue for international teams to train at.
“In order to do so, the existing hedge will need to be removed and the fencing will need to be moved onto the boundary line.”
The club plan to carry out the work outside the peak nesting season of March to August so they don’t disturb wildlife such as birds when removing the hedgerow.
The club also plan to plant 16 native-species of local fruiting trees to compensate for the loss of hedgerow.
The final decision will either be delegated to officers or debated by the council’s planning committee at a future meeting.
