Bluebirds seal win over Flint

HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY earned their first win of the second phase of the JD Cymru Premier season on Saturday (Feb 18) as they beat Flint Town 3-1 at the Ogi Bridge Meadow.

The game was just five minutes old before the first goal came.

Jack Leahy saw a shot saved by Flint keeper Allen but the ball fell to Rhys Abbruzzese who fired in.

He was then called into action at the other end five minutes later as he headed the ball off the line.

And soon after that it was 2-0 as Henry Jones’ cross was headed towards goal by Jordan Davies and the striker watched as his header looped in.

There was a chance for Flint to pull a goal back but County keeper Zac Jones made the save to deny Harry Owen.

With four minutes to go until the break, Flint did pull one back with Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro getting his name on the score sheet.

On the stroke of half time Ben Fawcett saw a shot saved.

It remained 2-1 until half time and the Bluebirds knew they would need to start well to fend off a Flint challenge.

They did just that with Abbruzzese coming agonisingly close to adding to the score as he saw his half volley come out of the right hand post.

Jack Leahy then saw a curling effort go over before Henry Jones also saw a shot go over.

With fifteen minutes to go the ball broke for Zack Clarke but Bluebirds keeper Jones came out to deny him.

Flint’s hopes of getting something from the game began to dwindle when Anthony Stephens was sent off with 10 minutes to go.

With time running out, a lofted ball found Jordan Davies whose square ball to Ben Fawcett beat the onrushing Flint keeper, allowing Fawcett a tap in to make it 3-1.

The Bluebirds are next in action on Saturday, February 25, when they travel to Pontypridd United.
