Footgolf fun for care-experienced young people thanks to Kingspan Insulated Panels

A NORTH Wales business has generously funded an activity day for care-experienced young people supported by Action for Children’s Skills Plus project. Six young people enjoyed a day of Footgolf at Flint Mountain Park Hotel Golf Course thanks to the Kingspan Insulated Panels (KIP) Community Fund.

The company is on a 10-year journey to become more Planet Passionate and alongside reducing their environmental footprint, they want to increase the positive impact they have in the communities they are a part of. The community fund aims to support the skills of young people and improve health and fitness through recreational activity.

The Skills Plus team provide a therapeutic intervention based on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to improve the emotional and social well-being of young people who experience significant distress and relationship difficulties and struggle to maintain consistency in their lives. There is also a focus on working to give young people the practical and life skills to enable them to transition into happy, healthy adults.

Lisa-Jayne George, young persons practitioner for Skills Plus, said: ‘I applied to the KIP Community Fund for funding for a group activity as they have an extremely positive effect on the young people we support. They engage with one another, talk to other young people who have been through similar experiences to themselves, and some lovely friendships have been formed as well as peer mentoring.

‘I was delighted our application was accepted with staff and the young people really enjoying themselves playing Footgolf at Flint Mountain Park Golf Club. It was so heart-warming to see some of our very shy and anxious young people engaging with one another and enjoying themselves with big smiles on their faces. We held a mini awards ceremony afterwards ensuring all the young people received a little present for attending and doing so well.  It was a very special time and we are so grateful to KIP for being able to put this event on.’
