Sam Rowlands MS calls on constituents to have their say on a new power station in Flintshire

Sam Rowlands, MS for North Wales with Ant Landers at Connah’s Quay Power Station

SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is encouraging the public to take part in a consultation over proposals for a new Connah’s Quay low carbon power station.

Proposals are being developed by Uniper for a new low carbon combined-cycle gas turbine power station at its Connah’s Quay site and local residents and other organisations are being invited to attend public information events about the project.

Mr Rowlands said: “I was fortunate enough to visit Connah’s Quay Power Station earlier this year where I met Ant Landers the Plant Manager and I was very impressed with what I saw.

“I heard about the future plans to provide a new low carbon gas fired power station on the Connah’s Quay site and I am delighted the public will now be able to have their say on this development.

“I welcome this investment in North Wales which will make a positive contribution to our country’s energy security.”

The proposed power station would connect into nearby CO₂ transport and storage infrastructure as part of the HyNet industrial cluster, enabling the captured CO₂ to be transported to permanent offshore storage facilities in repurposed depleted offshore gas fields.

The company held its initial Non-Statutory Consultation on its proposals in February and the feedback received during this early consultation has been reviewed and analysed to understand key themes and issues of importance.

It is currently undertaking an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), to identify any potential environmental impacts associated with the construction and operation of the power station and how we plan to manage or mitigate these.

Uniper is now inviting local residents, councils and other organisations to attend public information events during the Statutory Consultation, taking place from October 8 to November 19 2024.

These events will give local people the opportunity to understand more about our proposals and to meet the project team A DCO consent application is then due to be submitted later this year.

I’d like to encourage people to come along to the public information events to find out more about our plans for the site.”
