Tribute planned for Caernarfon teenager Joshua Lloyd Roberts following tragic death

A TRIBUTE is set to take place during this Fridays Wales v Armenia match in memory of Joshua Lloyd Roberts, a 19-year-old teenager from Caernarfon who tragically lost his life in a suspected hit and run incident. Joshua was found on the A4085 Ffordd Waunfawr in Caeathro on Friday night and sadly passed away.

Authorities have made progress in the case, as a 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a collision, and failing to report a collision. He has since been released on bail pending further investigation. Meanwhile, Joshua’s family has released a heartfelt tribute, expressing their love for him during this difficult time.

The Caernarfon community is devastated by the loss of Joshua, who was not only a talented footballer but also a beloved member of the community. He represented local side Bontnewydd FC and played for Cardiff Met FC while attending university in the capital. In honor of Joshua’s memory, a match between Bontnewydd FC and Caernarfon Town will take place this Thursday evening, June 8, at Cae Stanley, with kick-off scheduled for 6:30 PM.

Admission to the memorial match will be free, but there will be a collection during the game to raise funds in Joshua’s memory. The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has also confirmed that a tribute will be held during the Wales v Armenia match in Cardiff on June 16. Noel Mooney, the FAW’s chief executive, expressed his condolences on Twitter, saying, “Everyone at the FAW is so sorry to hear of Josh’s passing. We are thinking of his family & friends.”

Responding to inquiries about a tribute, Mooney further stated, “We will definitely mark Josh’s passing at the Armenia match. We will start work on this.” The FAW’s decision to pay homage to Joshua demonstrates the impact he had on the football community.

Bontnewydd FC, Joshua’s local club, expressed their shock and grief on their Facebook page, emphasizing his dedication to the team since he joined at the age of 16. The post read, “The club is in shock after losing Josh, one of our first team players, in an accident over the weekend. Josh was a committed player for Bont since joining the first team at the age of 16. A fine footballer, but more importantly, a fine young man, respectful and happy to help anyone. The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Josh’s family.”

Given Joshua’s involvement with Bontnewydd FC and his membership in the ‘Cofi Army,’ a passionate group of football supporters in North Wales, a significant turnout is expected at the memorial match at Cae Stanley. The community will come together to remember and honor a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many.

As the tragic loss of Joshua Lloyd Roberts reverberates through Caernarfon and the wider football community, the upcoming memorial match and the tribute during the Wales v Armenia game will provide an opportunity to celebrate his life and express solidarity with his grieving family.
