Elite golf centre proposed for former medical warehouse in Wrexham

A FORMER medical warehouse in Wrexham could become an elite golf training centre if plans are approved.

A planning application has been submitted to Wrexham County Borough Council to turn the former Phoenix Healthcare pharmaceutical warehouse off Dolydd Road- which distributed medicines for Numark pharmacies – into a state-of-the-art golf facility with professional-grade simulators.

The Rhostyllen-based company behind the idea is Golfinity Leisure Ltd. Their vision is to bring elite golf training to the masses with an on-site academy and top coaches training golfers of all ages all-year-round.

“Golfinity Leisure intends that Pro Sim will be an indoor golf training facility with a number of state of the art simulators,” wrote finance director Sarah Edwards in the application.

“Our mission is to revolutionise the golf training experience locally by providing the most advanced technology, expert coaching and an engaging environment that meets the diverse needs of golfers in Wrexham and beyond.”

The plans include an area with four digital projector screen golf simulator bays, a dining area, golf store and upstairs VIP lounge.

But despite their elite ambitions, the ultimate goal is to bring more people into the game.

“We aspire to make golf training accessible and enjoyable for everyone regardless of age or skill level,” wrote Sarah.

“We believe this is an ideal location for Pro Sim. There is plenty of parking, we are within easy walking distance of Wrexham Town Centre and excellent transport links will provide convenient access from North Wales, Chester and beyond.

“We believe we will attract tourism and give another reason for people to visit Wrexham.

“We will have a online booking system so we can control numbers and therefore minimise disruption for other businesses or neighbours.

There will be corporate initiatives for local businesses and visiting professionals and we are planning a golf academy to increase the interest in the sport for young people. We would like to forge links with local schools and other groups to create a nice local space and a sense of community.”

The public has until July 11 to comment on the application.
