SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is delighted funds have been raised to save the Clwyd Special Riding Centre in Llanfynydd, Wrexham.
Mr Rowlands recently highlighted the plight of the centre and called on constituents for their support.
Clwyd Special Riding Centre is a charity based at Llanfynydd, near Wrexham and faced a critical financial shortfall. The charity has annual running costs of £365,000 per year and urgently needed to raise funds to remain open after May 1.
The Centre supports a wide range of therapeutic activities, including hippotherapy (physio on horseback), mechanical horse therapy, Changing Lives Through Horses Programme, Equine Assisted Learning, and Riding for the Disabled (RDA) sessions.
Mr Rowlands said: “I am absolutely delighted to hear that the crowdfunding appeal has given the centre a lifeline which will enable it to continue to offer its very valuable and popular sessions.
“I recently met with Trustee Victoria Everall and Caroline Dingwall, Centre Manager who told me all about the work at the riding centre and the need for more funding so that it could continue to operate.
“I was happy to highlight their financial problems and urged the public to step in to help, which they have done, which is fantastic.
“I understand that funds have now been raised to prevent imminent closure and the appeal is still active and I wish them well with raising the necessary money to continue well into the future.”
The charity faced closure earlier this month because of a financial shortfall, however, thanks to an appeal enough funds have been raised to keep the centre running for another couple of months.
The centre has now extended its appeal deadline and is planning for the future by talking to supporters and advisers about how the centre operates and making sure it is viable long-term.
