Wrexham bingo hall raises incredible amount for charity

IT HAS BEEN all eyes down for a full house of fundraising at Wrexham’s Mecca Bingo.

Customers and team members at the bingo hall on Smithfield Road have raised over £31,000 to support local charities since 2022 and recently presented £2,811 to the lifesaving Wales Air Ambulance Charity.

The Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £11.2 million every year to keep its helicopters in the air and its rapid response vehicles on the road.

Tiffany Thain, from Mecca, recently presented Debra Sima, Wales Air Ambulance’s North Wales Regional Fundraising Manager, with the cheque. The funds raised for the all-Wales Charity were raised through special charity bingo games, as well as bucket collections from their ‘amazing’ customers.

Tiffany Thain said: “We have a fabulous community here at Mecca Wrexham and we have raised £31,341 to support local charities over the last three years alone, with over £2,800 going towards the Wales Air Ambulance.

“It feels fantastic to be supporting such an amazing Charity, which makes a difference to so many lives. I feel privileged to be part of our community fundraising team, helping Wales Air Ambulance and local charities to continue their work across Wrexham and beyond.

“Wales Air Ambulance service is vital in delivering lifesaving medical care to people across Wales and we’re proud to be a supporter.”

The Wales Air Ambulance is consultant-led, taking hospital-standard treatments to the patient and if required, transferring them directly to the most appropriate hospital for their illness or injury.

It is delivered via a unique Third Sector and Public Sector partnership.

The Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service (EMRTS) supplies highly skilled NHS consultants and critical care practitioners who work on board the Charity’s vehicles.

This advanced critical care includes the ability to administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions and conduct minor operations, all at the scene of an incident.

As a pan-Wales service, its dedicated crews, regardless of where they are based, will travel the length and breadth of the country to deliver emergency lifesaving care.

The Charity’s Debra Sima said: “A huge thank you to everyone at Mecca Wrexham. We’re delighted that they’ve raised funds for our lifesaving all-Wales Charity.

“In just three years, the team has incredibly raised over £31,000 for local causes, which is amazing. We are delighted to be one of the charities to benefit from its fundraising efforts.

“The Wales Air Ambulance can continue to be there for the people of Wales when they need us most, thanks to fundraising like this. Thank you so much to Mecca Wrexham, you’re all playing a part in saving lives across the country.”
