Rhayader motocross returns bigger than ever

Local contender, Rhayader's Alex Walton

THE STUNNING hillside track at Cwmythig Hill, St. Harmon, just outside Rhayader, Mid-Wales, will reverberate to the sound of motocross motorcycles on Wednesday evening, May 28, when the long-awaited return of the PAR Homes / Bodenham Enterprise Park / Steve Rowlands & Sons sponsored Welsh Open Motocross Championship takes place.

There’s a brilliant national class entry taking part, with last year’s winner Conrad Mewse returning to defend his title, as well as former top UK GP star Tommy Searle, also top Welsh riders Adam Sterry & Joel Rizzi.  Also starring in this fantastic line up are Taylor Hammal, Dan Thornhill, & top UK Enduro riders Jack Edmondson & Rhayader’s own Alex Walton who will hoping to field a strong challenge in front of the large crowd at the Cwmythig Hill circuit and hoping to earn some of the big prize money that is on offer.

Conrad Mewse, last year’s winner

The circuit which has had a major revamp for this event, mainly to the bottom half of the course, includes a new American style jump along the start straight to make the course looking at its best ever!  The circuit also features a downhill ski jump, wall of death berm and the infamous 65ft finish line table-top jump plus the popular 125 ft uphill triple jump.

With practice at 5.30pm and the first race at 6.30pm there’s a slickly run ten-race programme, three races per group, Pro / Experts, Clubman / Veterans and Novices / Ladies, with the popular Grand Final “dash for cash” race at the end of the evening for the top Pro / Experts on the night.

The circuit, virtually the whole of which can be seen from any one vantage point also has a full trackside public address system, keeping the large crowds informed will be top motocross commentators Chris Czora & Leah Yarranton (over 4,000 spectators turned out for the event last year).

As well as the packed race programme, there are a variety of trade stands, good catering facilities, licensed bar, a tarmac entrance into the circuit with excellent hard parking and permanent toilets, plus new for 2025 a Senior Citizens / Disabled hard standing car park with great viewing of the circuit –everything, in fact, for the family to enjoy a good night’s entertainment.

The admission fee is just £10.00 for adults while children under 14 go free.  Tickets can be bought on the gate but only cash will be accepted. Directions to Cwmythig Hill will be signposted from Rhayader.

All the action will take place on Wednesday Evening, May 28 – make sure you are there !!!
