Bridgend County Borough Council’s Cabinet has approved the updated Corporate Safeguarding Policy which ensures that the local authority is in alignment with Wales’ Safeguarding Procedures.

Last revised in June 2021, the most recent Safeguarding Policy includes additional requirements with regard to risk assessments, self-evaluation, and quality assurance. In particular is the requirement for an annual report on the effectiveness of corporate safeguarding to be brought to Scrutiny and Cabinet.

In addition, the updated policy not only underlines how safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone across the council, but also clearly highlights how the council can fulfil its corporate safeguarding responsibilities.

Cabinet Member for Social Services and Health, Deputy Leader Jane Gebbie, said: “The revised Safeguarding Policy aims to proactively manage and mitigate risks to the safety and wellbeing of both children and adults, whilst ensuring decisive and timely action to address serious concerns.

“It clearly presents methods which enable the council to fulfil its corporate safeguarding duties; to support people to live a life free of harm, abuse and neglect, as they deserve.”
