AN APPLICATION to build 133 new homes in the the Llynfi Valley has been submitted to Bridgend Council for consideration.

The plans handed in by developers at Persimmon Homes could see approval for work to begin on one of a series of new housing sites in Pont-Rhydd-y-Cyff, situated to the west of Bridgend Road and near the grounds of Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Llangynwyd.

It is one of a number of plots of land in the area which has been set aside for housing as part of the borough’s local development plan, with proposals for the development of 133 residential houses alongside access development, landscaping, and other associated works.

The site, based near the villafe of Llangynwyd is said to measure in at approximately six hectares and is made up of two fields and woodland forming part of Tyn-Y-Waun Farm.

This specific application has now been submitted to the local authority and could include a total of 133 properties, 15% of which would be set aside as affordable housing.

It comes after a separate set of proposals were handed in for 73 properties on land nearby earlier this year, and is expected to be part of a number of similar applications for the redevelopment of three inter-connected sites in the Pont Rhyd-y-Cyff area.

A report handed in as part of the proposal says: “The vision for the site is to create a sustainable neighbourhood which responds to local character with a sensitive approach to landscape that delivers multi-functional green infrastructure that provides lifestyle and ecological benefits.”

It added that the proposed development will be made up of “mainly two-storey dwellings” which will come in a variety of house types and material finishes and include two, three and four bedroom properties.

The latest application for new housing was submitted by developers in July of 2024 and will now go before the local authority’s planning department for a decision in the coming months.
