Cardiff High placed in lockdown after disturbance outside school gates

Police say no pupils or staff were involved in the incident

CARDIFF High School went into temporary lockdown on Wednesday afternoon (May 7) after police responded to reports of a disturbance outside the premises.

Officers from South Wales Police were called to Llandennis Road in Cyncoed at around 1:40pm following an altercation near the school entrance. Although the school initiated lockdown procedures, police later confirmed that the incident did not involve any pupils or staff.

The school said the decision to go into lockdown was made as a precaution to ensure the safety of those on site.

Those involved in the altercation left the scene shortly after the incident, and no injuries were reported.

The lockdown was lifted approximately 40 minutes later, once officers confirmed that the individuals had dispersed.

Police remained in the area throughout the afternoon to reassure the public, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “Police were called to an altercation at Llandennis Road, Cyncoed, Cardiff, at 1:40pm. Those involved quickly left the area and no injuries were reported. The incident did not involve pupils or staff from the nearby school. Officers remain in the area and enquiries are ongoing.”

A school spokesperson added: “As a precautionary measure, the school implemented its lockdown procedures following the incident on Llandennis Road to safeguard pupils and staff. The school reopened once it was confirmed there was no ongoing risk.”
