Davies join Cardiff Devils Hockey for training session

Andrew RT Davies with Todd Kelman, Managing Director of the Cardiff Devils

ANDREW RT DAVIES has described the excitement of “having the curtain lifted” as he visited a Cardiff Devils Ice Hockey Club training session.

The South Wales Central Senedd Member met with the Devils’ Managing Director Todd Kelman at the Vindico Arena, home of the ice hockey team who compete in the Elite Ice Hockey League, which includes teams from Belfast, Glasgow, Manchester and Sheffield among other towns and cities.

The Cardiff Devils employ around 35 people including players and coaches, with another 50 employed at the Arena, and the club sells out 40 games a year with 3,110 spectators every game.

Mr Kelman showed Mr Davies around the Arena while the Devils players were training on the ice ahead of their final game of the season. The Devils placed fourth in the league this season marking yet another consecutive top-5 finish, and the team also reached the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup.

Andrew RT Davies MS, Senedd Member for South Wales Central and former Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, said: “The Devils are a huge asset for Cardiff, and it was a real privilege to come down to the arena, and especially to have the curtain lifted and see the team training on the ice.

“It’s easy to see why they sell out every game, because when the team and also the staff off the ice are so passionate and committed to the club, it really comes across in the performances.

“I want to thank Todd Kelman and everyone at the arena for such an exciting tour, and I encourage everyone to get down to the Vindico next season to see this fantastic spectacle.”
