NEW contemporary works of art collected by Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales will be on show in a forthcoming gallery display ‘New Collections’ in National Museum Cardiff from 8 July 2023.
The display brings together a broad range of contemporary artworks acquired for the national collection in the last 5 years. Visitors will have the opportunity to see works by contemporary Welsh artists and artists working in Wales, including Anya Paintsil, Zillah Bowes, Mike Perry, Mohamed Hassan Catrin Webster and Jack Crabtree. There will also be work by abstract artist Glyn Baines, the oldest winner of the National Eisteddfod’s Gold Medal for Fine Art in 2015 who passed away this year.
The display will be changed every 6 months to enable the museum to showcase new works acquired. In coming displays National Museum Cardiff will also bring solo shows of contemporary and past artists working in Cymru, including Michal Iwanowski’s Go Home Polish and recent works by Cardiff artist, Sean Edwards. As part of the programme of displays the Museum will showcase contemporary Welsh designers including Llio James and Hiut DenimCo.

This new programme of changing displays will provide greater insight for our visitors into what Amgueddfa Cymru is collecting today.”
