Devastating car crash on M4 near Prince of Wales Bridge claims woman’s life

A 58-YEAR-OLD woman tragically lost her life in a car crash on the M4, close to the Prince of Wales Bridge, earlier this week, leaving her family in a state of profound grief and trauma. The distressing incident occurred during the early hours of Monday morning (July 17) on the eastbound side of the motorway, between junctions 22 and 21.

The collision involved two cars, both of which veered off the carriageway, resulting in multiple casualties. Emergency services, including Avon and Somerset Police, Gwent Police, and the National Police Air Service, rushed to the scene. Consequently, a section of the motorway remained closed for a period of 17 hours to facilitate investigations.

Regrettably, two women lost their lives due to injuries sustained in the crash, one of whom has been identified as 58-year-old Saado Hussein. Her bereaved family expressed their deep sorrow and trauma, stating, “We are incredibly devastated and traumatised by the tragic events that occurred earlier this week. We are grateful for the support of our family and friends, including the wider Bristol community at this difficult time.”

The other victim was a woman in her 60s, and both Mrs Hussein and the other victim hailed from Bristol.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police recounted the details, saying, “On Monday, July 17, at around 12.05 am, emergency services were called to a two-car collision on the M4 eastbound between junction 22 (M49) and 21 (M48). Both vehicles had left the carriageway, and there were several casualties. Sadly, two women in their 50s and 60s from Bristol were pronounced dead at the scene.”

The families of the deceased are receiving support from specially trained family liaison officers, and their well-being remains the primary concern during this difficult period. The remaining occupants of the same vehicle were taken to the hospital, with two already discharged to recover at home. However, one person remains in the hospital in critical condition.

Authorities are seeking the assistance of anyone who may have witnessed the collision involving a grey Peugeot and a blue Volkswagen, or who possess dashcam footage of the incident or the moments leading up to it. In particular, they are keen to speak with those driving near junction 22 between 11.55 pm and 12.10 am.
