Llanrumney football club nets £250 donation from Bellway

A grassroots football club in Llanrumney has scored a sponsorship deal with a local housebuilder.

Bellway, which is building new homes at its Longwood Grange development in Lisvane on the outskirts of Cardiff, has donated £250 to Llanrumney United FC.

The developer contributed the donation after first team coach and senior secretary Ben Stitfall reached out to them for support during the club’s pre-season training. The donation will go towards the day-to-day running of the which plays its home matches on a 3G pitch at Cardiff University’s sports field off Mendip Road.

Sarah Mace, Llanrumney United FC Club Secretary, said: “We’re grateful for Bellway’s support as we get ready to compete in the 2023/2024 season. As the club is primarily led by volunteers, we rely on donations from local businesses to keep on running and to have support from a massive housebuilder such as Bellway is a major boost.”

The club, which competes in Tier Four of the South Wales Alliance Premier Division, has 39 teams ranging from Under 5s to senior teams and a girls’ division. It is a platinum FAW Accredited Club and works in partnership with Sport Wales who have given it ‘Super Club’ status.

Sarah added: “Llanrumney United was formed in 1996 so we are a fairly young club but we are the largest community club in the area and have strong ties with all local sporting and community groups.

“We are known as a community club because we don’t just focus on playing football, we also promote mental health, fitness, wellbeing and teamwork in the local area. We are continually growing having recently signed a partnership with Her Game Too Cymru to raise awareness of sexism in sport and promote football as a game for everyone.”

Dan Shone, Head Of Sales for Bellway Wales, said: “We place a real emphasis on supporting the communities in which we build our homes, and our support for Llanrumney United FC is a sign of that commitment.

“What is particularly impressive about the club is its holistic approach and how it focuses not just on training and matches but promoting mental health and equality. We’re only too pleased to make a small contribution towards the day-to-day running of the club and we wish them all the best for the new season.”

Bellway is delivering a total of 270 new homes at Longwood Grange, off Maerdy Lane in Lisvane. More information can be found at http://www.bellway.co.uk/new-homes/wales/longwood-grange or by calling 029 2168 1030.
