Local developer donates to Vale of Glamorgan library

Rhoose Community Library is the latest recipient of a Persimmon Homes Community Champions donation.

The five-star housebuilder’s East Wales business handed over the £1,000 cheque to library trustees Jeff James and Ian Robinson, and were joined by local county councillors, Cllr Gillian Bruce and Cllr William Hennessy.

The library, run by volunteers, recently had its extension completed, meaning it now has a kitchen and a meeting room open to the public.

The trustees are currently seeking funding to install solar panels on the library’s roof in a move to meet its energy demand and do so in an environmentally friendly manner.

Persimmon, which has a significant presence in the Vale, funds good causes across Wales with £48,000 worth of donations as part of its Community Champions initiative. Recent local recipients include Whitmore Bay Surf Life Saving Club, based on Barry Island.

Jeff James, Rhoose Community Library trustee, said:

“We’re very grateful to Persimmon for their donation and demonstrating their support for the Rhoose community.

“The library team is very proud of the improvements we’ve delivered in recent years and this will help us towards future improvements, which we hope will include solar panels before not too long.”

Persimmon Homes East Wales’ Sales Director, Victoria Williams, added:

“Persimmon is proud to support Rhoose’s library through our Community Champions scheme.

“The leadership of the library has made it a true asset to the town with its recent expansion and we like to think that our donation will help those enormous benefits continue for future generations.”

Cllr Gillian Bruce commented:

“It is great to see developers like Persimmon engage with and involve themselves in communities in ways like this.

“As a local councillor, I know how much this library is treasured by the town’s residents and any contributions that help them carry on doing that great work in much appreciated.”

Cllr William Hennessey also said:

“I was delighted to join Rhoose Library’s trustees and Persimmon for the presentation of this donation and have the opportunity to discuss the Community Champions scheme with them.

“The volunteers at the library deliver an important service and it has been fantastic to see them expand their offering with the extension, so I know this donation will go to good use.”
