Mother’s appeal to locate her missing son after 21 years

Missing: Robert Williams then (L) and how he might look today (R)

Robert Williams vanished from his home in Resolven, Neath, on March 22, 2002, at the age of 15.

It is established that Robert attended a party in the nearby Aberdulais area the following day, but despite numerous police appeals, his whereabouts remain unknown.

Now, more than 21 years later, his mother Cheryl has made a statement saying that she “needs to know what happened” to the son she now believes is “never coming home”.

Talking about Robert, who would’ve turned 37 this month, his mother said: “I just want his body back so I can bury him. He deserves that,”

“I don’t want him out there on his own and we need closure as a family.

“Someone out there knows what happened to him.

“As a mother knowing my child is lying somewhere has destroyed me emotionally and physically. I need to know what happened to him.”

Detective Inspector Dai Butt, from South Wales Police, affirmed the force’s dedication to uncovering the truth behind Robert’s disappearance. He expressed his belief that the Aberdulais community possesses pivotal information that could aid in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the case.

“If you were at the party or have any information regarding Robert’s movements or disappearance, we would really like to speak to you,” he said.

“It may seem challenging to recall details from 21 years ago, but no matter how small or insignificant you think the information you hold is, it could prove vital to our investigation and could help provide Robert’s family with much needed closure. All this time without answers has been agony for them.
