Refurbishments planned for Glynneath Welfare Park

PLANS to revitalise a well-used local park in the Neath Port Talbot area have been revealed by Glynneath Town Council.

If approved, it would see the transformation of Glynneath Welfare Park, which was identified as a top priority for the local town council following community consultations.

The project, which is now in the tender stage, would see the refurbishment of three of the four tennis courts at the park, with a fourth  being converted to a multi-use games area, for sports such as football, netball and basketball.

Phase one of the plans also says it would repurpose a disused bowling green at the site in order to turn it into a play area with a focus on “providing a play space for children from early years to primary school age.”

A report, which was released as part of the brief for potential developers read: “The redevelopment of Glynneath Welfare Park has been identified as the top priority for investment following numerous community-focused consultation exercises. The park falls under the custodianship of Glynneath Town Council.”

It comes as another planning application was handed in to the county borough council in April, for refurbishment works to the foyer of Glynneath Town Hall on Heathfield Avenue.
