AARON RAY, 37, of Milton Grove, Stafford, threw a bucket of faeces and urine at a female officer’s face, leaving her “utterly humiliated.” The assault, which took place on May 4 of last year, stemmed from a grudge involving a fellow inmate, according to the court.
The victim, who had only been working at the prison for about a year, required a full screening at a sexual health clinic following the attack. The traumatic event left her deeply distressed.
Ray admitted to administering a noxious substance with intent to injure, aggrieve, or annoy. Defence barrister Emma Harris noted Ray’s regret for his actions, highlighting his previous productive life as a plasterer and his effective use of time during custody.
In his sentencing remarks, His Honour Judge Egan condemned Ray’s actions as “vile, revolting, and repugnant,” emphasizing the demanding nature of a prison officer’s job. “She is entitled to be treated with courtesy and respect. Instead, you treated her appallingly,” Judge Egan stated. “The faeces and urine went into her hair and her mouth, and onto her clothes. Some of your fellow inmates helped her. She was utterly humiliated.”
Judge Egan imposed an immediate custodial sentence of 24 months on Ray, with half to be served in custody and the remainder on licence.
Ray was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £187 within six months of his release.
