New Greggs bakery planned at industrial estate in Tonyrefail

A NEW Greggs bakery is planned at an industrial estate in Tonyrefail.

The application, which has been submitted to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, would involve the change of use of unit three on Del Guerra Court on Gelligron Industrial Estate to allow Greggs to operate from the site.

The planning statement says it would provide a complimentary service to the existing provision in the area, providing an “important supporting use thereby reducing unsustainable car journeys, improving the attractiveness of the area for existing visitors and increasing choice, whilst also generating further employment”.

It also says that due to the location and its limited scale, the impact will be negligible and nearby retail centres will not be harmed.

The planning statement said the store could create about 12 jobs and it hopes these will be recruited for locally.

Greggs is applying for permission to open between 6am and 6pm from Monday to Saturday and from 8am to 5pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

The application says the site is located in Del Guerra Court, which is made up of nine units, and is part of the wider Gelligron Industrial Estate.

The planning statement says the site has good levels of parking, storage for waste and includes an existing kitchen and toilet. It is within the settlement boundary, is not in a conservation area or a flood zone and is not a listed building.

In conclusion, the planning statement says the proposal will “support the immediate surrounding area, satisfying residents and workers who want to have something convenient and quick to eat at an affordable price”.

It added that the creation of 12 jobs would make a “significant contribution to the economy”.

The statement adds that the overall appearance of the site will be improved and the proposal offers social, economic and environmental benefits to the area, and that it will be “improving the vitality and viability of the area with no impact on the town centre, whilst also providing jobs and benefits to the community”.
