LABOUR and the Conservatives will battle it out to fill a vacant seat in a council by-election in Pontypool.

Both parties are putting up candidates to fill a vacancy for the Cwmynyscoy ward on Pontypool Community Council.

The area had been represented by Labour councillor John Killick until he resigned from the council earlier this summer.

The Labour candidate is Lisa Ann Jones while the Conservatives are represented by Stephen Templeton and there are no other candidates in the election to be held on Thursday, October 12.

There are 21 seats on the community council with Labour currently holding 18 and the Conservatives two.
