IN PONTYPOOL today a group of Reform UK’s Chief Whip, Lee Anderson MP, will welcome a group of Torfaen County Borough councillors into Reform UK, creating the party’s first council group in Wales.
This comes after a successful General Election campaign where Reform UK scored second place in 14 constituencies and achieved 16% of the Welsh vote share, an increase of 11,5% in 2019, almost overtaking the Tories and beating both Plaid Cymru and the Lib Dems in the popular vote.
Cllrs David Thomas, Jason O’Connell and Alan Slade were accompanied by Lee Anderson as they completed the formalities.
The Councillors said: “We have made this decision because in recent months, it has become increasingly clear that joining Reform UK Wales will allow us to better serve you.
“By aligning with this party, we gain access to greater resources, a more robust platform, and increased influence—tools that are essential for tackling the challenges our borough faces.
“This move positions us to work more effectively within the broader political landscape, ensuring that we can deliver tangible results that benefit our community”.
They went on: “We chose to align with Reform Wales because we believe in their unwavering commitment to advocating for the most vulnerable and their dedication to supporting grassroots initiatives.
These values mirror the priorities you entrusted us with when you elected us, and we are confident that this partnership will enable us to fulfil the promises we made to you more effectively”.
Lee Anderson MP said: “I’m delighted to welcome David, Jason and Alan to the Reform family. Today, across the country we are seeing more and more people realise that the best way to improve the system is to join Reform UK.
“Reform is the only party that is completely committed to the people of this country, first, last and always and I am sure that, here in the valleys of Wales this is just the start of something remarkable.
“With under two years to go before the next Senedd election, Reform UK Wales will be challenging the legacy parties for every vote in the country.”
