Two dead in Pontypridd road traffic collision, police appeal for witnesses

TWO people have sadly died in a road traffic collision.

The crash happened on the B4273, Ynysybwl Road, Pontypridd at 6.30pm on Friday, January 27 and involved a black Ford Focus and three pedestrians. The road was closed for the entire day.

South Wales Police confirmed that two pedestrians, a man and a woman from Pontypridd both aged 32, died at the scene.

The next of kin of the deceased have been informed. A third pedestrian, a 36-year-old from Llantrisant was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Officers told Herald.Wales that they are investigating the crash and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them. A spokesman said: “South Wales Police is investigating a fatal road traffic collision which happened on B4273, Ynysybwl Road, Pontypridd, at 6.30pm on Friday (Jan 27).

“The collision involved a black Ford Focus and a three pedestrians. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, two pedestrians, a man and a woman, both aged 32 and from Pontypridd, died at the scene.

“The third pedestrian, a 36-year-old man from Llantrisant, was taken to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. Our thoughts remain with the man and woman’s family and friends. Their next of kin are aware and are being supported by officers.

“The B4273, Yynysybwl Road from Cefn Close to Daren Ddu Lanes/Road remains closed. The local community is thanked for its patience and understanding at this time.”

South Wales Police confirmed that no arrests have been made but officers are making enquiries and encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
