Anti-racism protest takes place in Tenby following unrest across the UK

ON SATURDAY morning (Aug 10) Tenby witnessed a peaceful and well-attended anti-racism rally in the town centre. Organised by Stand Up to Racism West Wales as part of the National Day of Protest, the Tenby Unity Rally brought together a diverse group of community members united against racism and far-right ideologies.

The rally began at 11am outside St Mary’s Church, with participants gathering in solidarity under the banners of ‘Stop the Far Right’ and ‘Don’t Let the Racists Divide Us.’ The event was marked by speeches emphasising the importance of unity and inclusivity in the community.

Patrick Connellan, a representative of Stand Up to Racism West Wales, expressed his satisfaction with the turnout and the positive atmosphere. “Our community is a diverse and precious one, and today we showed that we stand together against hate. The peaceful nature of this rally highlights our commitment to maintaining unity and rejecting the divisive tactics of the far-right,” he said.

Despite earlier reports of potential counter-protests in the area, the event proceeded without any incidents. Dyfed-Powys Police maintained a visible but unobtrusive presence to ensure the safety of all participants. A spokesperson for the police force reiterated their commitment to facilitating lawful and peaceful protests while ensuring public safety.

The Tenby Unity Rally concluded by early afternoon, leaving a strong message of solidarity and peace within the community.
