YSGOL Dyffryn Aman’s brand new 3G rugby and football pitch, with a 6-lane synthetic running track, has been officially opened today, Friday 10 November 2023.
To mark the officially opening, Carmarthenshire County Council hosted a sports festival for Ysgol Dyffryn Aman’s feeder primary schools.
There were also some very notable former pupils of the school present at the grand opening, including Jac Morgan – Wales Men Rugby Captain, Hannah Jones – Wales Women Rugby Captain, Josh Griffiths – Elite Marathon Runner and Shane Williams – Welsh rugby legend.
The opening of the 3G pitch and athletics track sees the completion of the final phase of Carmarthenshire County Council’s capital project, which has seen a £2 million investment in the construction of the brand-new and first-class facility.
As part of its continued investment into the Amman Valley Leisure Centre & Ysgol Dyffryn Aman facilities, Carmarthenshire County Council has also carried out resurfacing works to the existing 2G Hockey and Football floodlit all-weather pitch (AWP).
The resurfacing of the existing AWP was made possible through a combination of school, local authority, Sport Wales, and external funding of over £300,000 and was part of the second phase of works and investments being undertaken at the site.
Cllr. Hazel Evans, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “We are delighted to officially open the new 3G sports pitch and running track at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman which will ensure a first-class sport facility for the whole of the Amman Valley.
“Delivering a new 3G sports pitch in Ammanford was an objective set out within the County Council’s Cabinet Vision Statement, along with developing a strategy and assessing the need for all weather pitches across the county. It’s very pleasing to see this realised for the benefit of the area and the benefit of the children using it here today and for years to come.
“This investment in the Amman Valley is all-important in developing the Council’s sport for all approach to support a broad range of participation in sports, from beginners to elite.”
