Burry Port Marina faces uncertain future as administrators take control

Burry Port Marina Ltd. has recently found itself navigating rough waters. Following the appointment of Matthew Richards, Colin Haig, and Simon Monks from Azets on 7 June 2023, the administrators are now steering the ship, maintaining operations as the future of the marina remains under deliberation.

Various stakeholders have been consulted to determine immediate remedial actions necessary at the marina. Further assessments are underway to ensure its long-term viability.

For months, the administrators have been closely working with the Carmarthenshire County Council. The council has expressed its full support towards the administration process and has been instrumental in the hunt for a reliable operator for the marina’s future.

Councillor Hazel Evans, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism, voiced her commitment, stating: “Our priority as a Local Authority is to chart a sustainable course for Burry Port Harbour. Our collaboration with the administrators is crucial to this endeavour. We’ll ensure that the local community and other significant stakeholders are regularly updated on the progress concerning the Harbour.”

Matthew Richards, a Restructuring Partner with Azets and a joint administrator, added his thoughts: “Our combined efforts with the Carmarthenshire County Council aim to find the best possible solution for the marina. While we hope for a swift resolution, it appears that this journey may extend into 2024. We deeply appreciate the continued cooperation of all stakeholders during this phase.”
